AFCON 2027 in Tanzania: Where to Stay in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Zanzibar

Published 2026-10-17 · 2 min · Boma

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be the first edition shared by three countries: Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. The tournament is scheduled for 19 June to 17 July 2027 with 24 teams. If you plan to watch matches in Tanzania, rooms near the stadiums are likely to fill up, so it is worth planning early.

Event details can change. This page reflects public information at the time of writing. Check the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the official organisers for fixtures, venues and tickets, and confirm any dates before you book travel.

What is known so far

  • Dates: 19 June to 17 July 2027.
  • Hosts: Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
  • Tanzanian host cities currently expected: Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Zanzibar. Stadiums named in public lists include Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Samia Suluhu Hassan Stadium in Arusha, and Amaan and Fumba stadiums in Zanzibar.
  • Still to be confirmed: the final list of venues, which city stages which match, and the opening match and final. Reports note that stadium readiness is still being checked, so expect the match schedule to settle later.

Where to stay, by city

Dar es Salaam. The largest city and the likeliest base for many visitors. Traffic can be slow on match days, so pick a stay that is close to the stadium or on a route you can reach without crossing the whole city. Coastal and city-centre areas have the widest choice. See stays in Dar es Salaam.

Arusha. A good base if you want to combine football with a safari or a Kilimanjaro trip. A home with a kitchen and laundry is comfortable for longer visits. See stays in Arusha.

Zanzibar. Ideal for mixing matches with beach days. Remember that travelling between the mainland and the islands takes planning, so allow extra time around match days. See stays in Zanzibar.

Tips for booking

  1. Book as soon as dates are set. Tournament weeks are the first to be taken.
  2. Choose a stay near your match, not just near the beach. Check the distance with your host.
  3. Think in groups. Friends and families often travel together; a whole home can cost less per person than several hotel rooms.
  4. Check the cancellation policy. Fixtures and venues may change, so a flexible policy gives you room to adjust.
  5. Plan your insurance. Foreign visitors now need government travel insurance; see our guide to paying on the official site.
  6. Buy tickets only from official channels. Be wary of social-media sellers.
