How to Earn from Your Home as a Host in Tanzania
Published 2026-10-17 · 1 min · Boma
If you have a spare room, an apartment or a house that is empty part of the year, hosting can bring in income. Here is what to prepare.
Before you list
- Documents. Verified hosts go live first, so have your ID and proof of ownership or permission to rent ready.
- Permission. Make sure you are allowed to rent the property out, for example by a landlord or building rules.
- Safety and cleanliness. Working locks, clean bedding, safe wiring and a basic first-aid kit go a long way.
Photos and description
Natural light, tidy rooms and honest descriptions get more bookings and fewer complaints. Photograph every room, the outside and the view. Describe what is really there, including power backup, water and internet.
Set your price
Look at similar places in your area and start at a fair price. You can adjust for seasons and offer discounts for longer stays. Check the total price guests will see, which includes fees.
House rules and cancellation
Set clear rules on guests, noise, smoking, pets and parties. Pick a cancellation policy that fits your plans: flexible, moderate or strict.
Be a good host
- Reply quickly to messages.
- Make check-in simple and tell guests how to reach you.
- Keep the place as it looks in the photos.
- Ask for reviews after each stay. They help your listing rank higher.
Getting paid
Guests pay through the platform, and your earnings are paid out after the stay according to the platform’s payout rules.
