How to Pay for a Booking with Mobile Money in Tanzania

Published 2026-10-17 · 1 min · Boma

Mobile money is how most people in Tanzania pay for everyday things, and it works for booking a home too. Here is how it works on Boma.

Step by step

  1. Choose your stay and dates. Open the listing and check the price for your dates. The price shown includes the fees, so there are no surprises later.
  2. Create an account or sign in. You need an account so your booking and receipts are saved.
  3. Confirm the booking. The dates are held for you for a limited time while you pay.
  4. Choose mobile money. Pick your mobile money network and enter the phone number registered to that wallet.
  5. Approve on your phone. You receive a prompt on your phone. Enter your PIN to approve the payment.
  6. Booking confirmed. When the payment is received, the page updates and your booking is confirmed.

If the prompt does not arrive

  • Check that the number is correct and belongs to the network you selected.
  • Make sure the wallet has enough balance and your phone has signal.
  • Wait a minute, then try again. You can also pay by card instead.

Paying by card

If you prefer a card, choose the card option. A secure checkout page opens in a new tab. Keep the Boma tab open: it updates once the payment is received.

Pay now or pay later

Some stays let you reserve now and pay later, if the host allows it and your check-in date is far enough away. The price breakdown will tell you if this is available.

Keep your receipts

Your booking page shows the status of your payment. If something looks wrong, contact support with your booking details.
