What to Check Before Booking a Rental in Tanzania
Published 2026-10-17 · 1 min · Boma
Booking a home online should be simple. These checks take a few minutes and prevent most problems.
1. Is the listing and host verified?
Look for a verification badge. On Boma, listings are reviewed by our team before they can be booked. Be careful with offers that ask you to pay outside the platform, because you lose protection if something goes wrong.
2. Does the location work for you?
Check the map and ask how long it takes to reach the places you care about. In Tanzanian cities, traffic can change travel time a lot between morning, midday and evening.
3. Utilities
Ask about backup power, water supply, internet, and hot water. These matter more than a few extra photos.
4. Read the house rules
Rules about guests, noise, smoking and pets are shown on the listing. Check that they suit your group.
5. Understand the total price
Look at the full breakdown for your dates: nightly rate, cleaning fee, service fee, taxes and any deposit. Compare the total, not just the nightly price.
6. Know the cancellation policy
Policies are flexible, moderate or strict. Read what you would get back if your plans change, and when.
7. Pay safely
Pay through the booking page, using mobile money or card. Keep your booking confirmation.
8. Message the host
If something is unclear, ask before you book. A good host replies promptly and clearly.
